Environmental Advisory Council (EAC)
Purpose and Goals
PURPOSE:
The South Fayette Township Environmental Advisory Council works at the direction of the Township Board of Commissioners and as an extension of the Township staff to research environmental issues.
GOALS:
Exploring and promoting environmental initiatives in the Township
Research environmental issues and funding sources
Advise the Township staff and Commissioners on environmental issues
Sponsor environmental education
Coordinate environmental projects
Promote a community environmental program
Promote healthy watersheds by addressing such issues as water quality and quantity, storm water management, restoration, protection measures, and community involvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review all proposed development plans of 50 units or more and provide a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners on any environmental concerns.
Review any site plan of over 5 acres and provide a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners on any environmental concerns.
Review any land operations permit of 5 acres or more and provide a recommendation to the Township Staff on any environmental concerns.
Identify environmental problems and recommend plans and programs to the appropriate agencies for the promotion and conservation of natural recourses and for the protection and improvement of the quality of the environment.
Keep an index of all open space, publicly and privately owned, including but not limited to flood-prone areas, swamps, and other unique natural areas, for the purpose of obtaining information on the proper use of such areas.
Keep an index of all Brownfield sites for the purpose of prioritizing necessary clean-up and reuse programs and funding.
Keep an index of all mine drainage sites for the purpose of promoting clean-up and funding by submitting an annual priority report to the Board of Commissioners and other supporting internal and external agencies.
Establish and maintain a greenways inventory and plan.
